How To Organize Your Car

header.jpg

Hey Fashionistas! I thought I should update my organizing section of my blog so if you want a Mary Poppins style car then scroll down for some tips! "Mary Poppins Car" means you have everything you and your passengers could ever need, like Mary Poppins and her bag!

First things first, get a car wash. If your car is black like mine, it gets dirty pretty fast. One gust of wind and BOOM it looks like you took a road trip in the desert! Next, clear out all empty water bottles, receipts, shopping bags, candy wrappers or any other things that don't belong. I spend most of my days driving so it is nice to have everything I NEED and not a bunch of trash. Alright, once that is done, you can move onto what you do need...

KEYS:

Take off all unnecessary keys and/or lanyards off of your key ring. Lets face it, it is taking up purse space. Think about it, would you rather have another lipstick or some key chain you got from high school? Thats what I thought.

First and foremost start by decluttering all of the paperwork. My car came with a really nice manual case. I ended up organizing paperwork like registration papers and the most recent receipt from an oil change so I know when to get the next one. Keep the registration and insurance papers at the front just in case you get pulled over. There's nothing more nerve-wracking than getting pulled over and trying to find all of these papers, not that I would know...It is also a good idea to keep napkins and tissues. I recommend both because napkins help with spills and tissues are great for your sensitive nose. You don't want some rough Starbucks napkin making your red nose more red. I would say to keep a couple of pens in your car for you and your passengers. Sometimes you just have to sign a greeting card in your car! hahaha Straws! Sometimes after leaving a drive thru, there isn't a straw in the bag. Blah! It's not an essential, but you never know! MIDDLE COMPARTMENT:

I'd like to start with sun glasses because that is where I usually wear them or where I remember to wear them. Next, I recommend an eyeglass cleaner and cloth for the glasses-wearing fashionistas! If you need bobby pins or hair ties, this would be the best place because it is hidden and not cluttering up your main area. Also, if you have extra chords, leave them in there unless you are using them. Lastly, keep some sort of air freshener. I like the Bath and Body Works room spray in Fresh Linen. PLEASE spray when the windows are open or the doors. Theres nothing worse than getting in a car that is heavily scented.BACKSEAT POCKETS:

Usually people put junk here or nothing, but I think this is a great place for a mini first aid kit! There's been plenty of times where my friends need a band aid or eye drops or something to that sort. When I was in school I drove past my friend that fell off of his bike. After I laughed at his clumsiness, I grabbed some wipes and a bandaid and voila! It was such a mom moment, but good times. My kit is Johnson and Johnson from Target and it was one dollar. Next keep some sort of book or magazine for your passengers. My car is always volunteered to go on road trips (because its great on gas) and it is just nice to have something for the people stuck in the back. I have one of my favorite girl bosses, Jessica Alba. Go girl!THE TRUNK:

This is the most important part. You don't want too much in the trunk because then you cannot use it for its real purpose...temporary storage. That's right, temporary. So start with the real essentials like jumper cables. You can order some on Amazon or go to your local auto store or even your dealership. They are inexpensive and much needed! With that, I would recommend a portable air pump. This is good for when you are in the middle of nowhere...trust. A towel or those yellow towels would be great to store in your trunk for those times when those little napkins in the front aren't cutting it or your windows are ridiculously foggy. A blanket is great for the passengers that are always cold or if you are at the beach and have a wet dog. There has been a moment where the stars were so vivid and my friend and I decided to pull over and look at them! Do I need to explain a blanket more? My blanket is from Red E Surf Shop, and it is Volcom. Water is great for when you are the DD hehehe which is me typically. Water is great to have for the regular days where you are just so parched! I always carpooled when I was in college so my friends always appreciated a bottle of water after class. It is also amazing if you ever find yourself stranded. I keep an umbrella in my trunk because I can never keep up with California weather! Lastly, keep ONE pair of shoes in your car. Not 20, just one pair of shoes. I like these heels, but I would say tennis shoes or boots would be more practical. I am always wearing boots or tennis shoes so just in case I need to dressed up I pop on my heels and a good red lip and there ya go!  Top: Billabong from Red E Surf
